Burgess Gaa Notes 8th October 2018

Tribute Night:

We held a long overdue and richly deserved tribute night to honour the great Donie Nealon on Friday last. Comrades from the great Tipp team of the 60’s that Donie soldiered with along with rivals from that era were in attendance along with representative of the ’71, ’89 and ’91 teams that DonIe mentored. His service to the Munster council was also marked with colleagues from his time there also speaking. All in all it was a marvellous night filled with great stories and fun. A DVD will be available from Jim Egan for a cost of €10 fir those who couldn’t make it and anyone who’d like a memento of the night. We would especially like to thank John Hogan and his committee for their (covert) hard work in organising this great night in honour of Donie. Special mention too to Sinead and Nuala Nealon who managed to make the whole night a surprise for Donie and all the guests from near and far who came for Donie’s special night.

Our u12 ‘green’ team are pride of the parish this week after their heroics in the North final last Saturday where they completed a North ‘B’ football and Hurling double for 2018. Our boys and girls put in a great performance against an excellent Kiladangan team who had previously beaten us earlier in the championship. The standard of hurling was extremely high and the low final score of 0-4 to 0-3 merely reflects toughness of both defences. Our lads and lassies will face the south champions this coming weekend. Please keep an eye on the clubs social media for fixture updates and please do come along and support our young hurlers. We would like to extended a big thank you to their mentors and parents for all the work that has been put into both the Green and Gold teams this year.
