North Final Conundrum….

With our senior hurling clash with Nenagh postponed this weekend we can concentrate a little more on this weekends North Senior Hurling final. It promises to be a great game for the neutral with our close neighbours Portroe and the old reliable’s Toomevara making up a novel pairing. Both of whom marked high points and low points in our North senior Hurling campaign this year.

Highs…

Lows…

We seemed to be coping well against Toome until we leaked those two soft goals and once they went in the wind was lost from our sails. Portroe on the other hand probably should have beaten Toome in a tempestuous and thrilling group game draw in McDonagh park Nenagh. A pair of results made more bizzare by our own loss to Borrisokane and our final group game 13 man victory against Portroe.

So what will all this mean to the Burgess patron in the stand at the North final? Neutrality is all fine and well until the ball is thrown in and a lot of Port cars will have to drive through Newtown.

I found myself while watching Port and Toome battle it out in their group game edging towards supporting Portroe as the game wore on. Will the same phenomenon occur this Sunday? If they win will we ever be able to shut them up? We can only only console ourselves with the fact that, in this doomsday scenario of a Portroe North final victory, we will remain the only team to have beaten Portroe in the North Senior Hurling championship. And no matter how much they deny it this fact sticks in their craw.

Congratulations to our two senior county men Shane and Donagh Maher on victory with the Tipp senior Hurlers in the Munster final this weekend past and the best of luck to Damien O’Brien with the Tipperary intermediates.

Great days for the club… Now bring on those townies..

*Edit*

Speaking of those townies. It seems they have friends in high places. They have managed to engineer the postponement of the senior match this weekend to their advantage and unfortunately to our distinct disadvantage.
Nothing is won easy in senior hurling and it seems you can’t even count on fair play.
There will be a raffle and sale of work after the north final this weekend for the purpose of supplying the county board with phones that will answer.
remember the u21’s ;D
