Senior match report

Another Burgess attack launched

Another Burgess attack launched

After last week’s stinging defeat to the Slivermines our senior hurlers responded in fine style with a great victory over Roscrea in Dolla on Saturday last.

Conditions were poor with a strong cross field wind making shooting extremely difficult for both sides but nevertheless Burgess got off to a bright start with Stephen Murray making the score 0:02 to 0:00 after 8 minutes.  Roscrea replied with two points of their own to make the game level at two points apiece after 15 minutes.

Burgess then took over outscoring Roscrea by 1:05 to 0:02 for the remainder of the half. The Burgess scores came from Murray (1:03) and a point each from Noel Gleeson and Damien O’Brien.  This left Burgess leading 1:07 to 0:04 at half time.

The second half began like the first with Burgess registering the opening score, a fine effort from play by Damien O’Brien after only minute on the clock. Burgess continued to dominate the half outscoring Roscrea 0:06 to 0:04 for the half in deteriorating weather conditions. The Burgess scorers for the half were Damien O’Brien with 0,2 Stephen Murray also with 0,2, Eoin Leahy Hogan and Daniel Ryan with a point each.

The final score

The final score

Burgess were full value for their 1:13 to 0:08 win on what was a difficult day for hurling (Burgess had 16 wides, Roscrea had 8) This result now sets up a grandstand make or break final group game against Toomevara. So we march on with our fate firmly in our own hands.
