Burgess 0-7 Kilruane 0-20 27th November 2013

Kilruane retained their North Tipperary u21A hurling crown in Dolla on Sunday  last. Our lads gave their all but Kilruane proved to be too strong on the day. Kilruane were first out of the blocks with early points from Niall O’Meara. His first coming from play and his second from a placed ball. The same Niall O’Meara who would do most of Kilruanes scoring on the day contributing ten points over all, seven frees, one ’65 and a point from play in each half. Burgess trailed 0-10 to 0-2 at half time our scores both coming from frees by Eoin Hogan.

The second half started brightly with Danny Ryan pointing straight from the throw in after a fanatastic solo run by John O’Dwyer who was now operating at mid field. A minute later Eoin Hogan had another great score from play and things were looking up for Burgess. This proved to be a false dawn however as the ever accurate Niall O’Meara steadied the Kilruane ship with yet another pointed free on 33 minutes.

The scores just wouldn’t come for Burgess on a very disappointing day in Dolla when it seemed everything sailed over the bar for Kilruane. We had some goal chances which Kilruane somehow managed to keep out but all in all Kilruane thoroughly deserved their victory and we wish them the very best of luck in the county championship.

Burgess reach North u21A final

Burgess 1-15 Kildangan 0-15 AET 17-11-2013 in Dolla North u12A semi final

IMAG0019

Burgess did just about enough to overcome a dogged Kildangan side in a taut encounter in Dolla today which required extra time to separate the teams.

Kildangan had the first score of the match after two minutes of play, pointed free from Tadgh Gallagher. We got the next four scores, two great points from play by Danny Ryan and Jack Flaherty. Then a scrambled goal from Eoin Hogan followed by a pointed free from the same player which left the score a healthy 1-3 to 0-1 after 16 minutes of hurling against the wind. Another excellent point by Eoin Hogan after 19 minutes completed our scoring for the half which meant we led 1-4 to 0-4 at half time.

The second half saw Kildangan take control firing over two points before John O’Dwyer open his account with a long range free after 8 minutes of the half. With 15 minutes gone in the half we were leading 1-7 to 0-7 courtesy of an Eoin Hogan free and another pointed free from John O’Dwyer, this one was a monster effort from inside his own half. We added one more point from play (Eoin Hogan) but it was Kildangan who finished the stronger and forced the game into extra time. The score at 60 minutes read Burgess 1-8 Kildangan 0-11.

Extra time saw kildangan take an early 2 point lead before three pointed frees from the deadly accurate Eoin Hogan had the game level again at half time in extra time. Kildangan only managed one point in the second half of extra time against Burgess’s four, 2 long range John O’Dwyer efforts from placed balls, a medium range Eoin Hogan free and a fantastic keiran Ryan shot from  the wing. The final score of Burgess 1-15 Kildangan 0-15 means Burgess martch on to a North final meeting with Kilruane who beat a fancied Eire Og side handily by 0-22 to 0-10.
