U21B Football:

Team:  Paul Carroll, Eoin Daly, Pat Woods, Adam Coady, William Ryan, Jack Flaherty, Tadgh O’Halloran, Tony Hogan, Ethan Maloney, Tony Gleeson, John O’Dwyer, Kieth Nealon, Padraig Gill, Bill O’Flaherty, Chris Armatage. Subs used: Thomas Coughlan.

Though we dominated possession in the first half and created many chances we just couldn’t make them count on the score board in this north Tipperary u21B Football championship group game. A penalty miss added to our woes in the first and saw us going in at half time trailing the home side 3 point to nil.

The second half was as frustrating as the first on the scoring front. Our task became doubly difficult 2 minutes into the second half when Borrisokane doubled their lead with a well taken penalty which left Paul Carroll no chance in the Burgess goal. With 45 minutes on the clock disaster struck again when a ball came back of the upright and fell to a Borris forward who slid the ball under the onrushing Paul Carroll leaving us 2-5 to 0-0 adrift.

We finally got our shooting boots on with 15 minutes left in the game after a fantastic individual score from Jack Flaherty. Paidi Gill chipped in with a good point after 54 minutes and followed up with a well worked goal 3 minutes later to leave the final score 2-6 to 1-2.

Burgess suffer defeat in League opener

Senior Hurling League 2014

Burgess 2-11 Nenagh Eire Og 4-13

Team: Niall McGrath, Paddy Hogan, Johny Mullqueen, Jack O’Flaherty, Donagh Maher(0-1), Brian Tucker, Mike O’Flaherty, Noel Gleeson, Bill O’Flaherty. Eoin (Tossy) Hogan, Brian Hogan, Eoin (Leahy) Hogan (2-5,3f,1 ’65), Damien O’Brien (cpt)(0-1), John O’Brien(0-1). Subs used: Tadgh O’Halloran(0-1), Willie Ryan, Kieran Ryan(0-1) Declan O’Donoghue, Johny Ryan.

We got off to a horror start in this league encounter when Nenagh caught us cold for a well taken opening goal inside the first 30 seconds of the game. We struggled throughout the first half to work the ball into scoring positions. Nenagh had no such worries playing with the aid of a stiff breeze and had their second goal from a soft-ish 21 metre free after 15 minutes of play to make the score 2-5 to 0-3. We went in at half time trailing by 2-10 to 4 points. Our scores for the half came from Damien O’Brien (play) and Eoin Leahy Hogan 2f, 1’65.

John O’Brien fired the open shot of our 2-3 without reply salvo in the first 8 minutes of the second half. Eoin Leahy Hogan was on fire bagging to goals within a minute of each other along with points, one from a placed ball the other from play. Disaster struck in the 14th minute of the second half when we let Nenagh in for two quick fire goals.

All told we put in a much better second half and took some fantastic scores but on balance Nenagh well deserved their victory.
