Burgess through to Dr. Fogarty league final

Burgess reach Dr. Fogarty League Final

Chopper fights for the ball

Burgess 0-12 Ballingarry 0-9, Littleton 15th April 2014.

Stephan Murray opened the scoring on the second minute of the first half with a pointed free for Burgess in an opening quarter that we dominated on the score board. Murray with 0-5 and a Point each by Damien O’Brien and Peter Gill had us in possession of a 0-7 to 0-1 lead after 17 minutes. Ballingarry’s only score up to this point came from a fourth minute free. Ballingarry however created many chances in the opening quarter and had they been more accurate we would have been in big trouble.

Ballingarry finally found their range between the 20th and the 22nd minutes when they blitzed Burgess with 4 unanswered points from play to reduce their deficit to just two points, 0-7 to 0-5.  A Damien O’Brien point on the 23rd minute steadied the Burgess ship and further points from Murray (free) and a monster score by Paddy Hogan left Burgess a four point lead at the break with the scoreboard reading 0-6 to 0-10.

The second half was poor fare with only five scores in the half with Burgess scoring only accounting for two points, a free by Stephan Murray and a well taken point by Damien O’Brien after a mix up in the Ballingarry defence.  Stephen Murray also had a penalty saved in what was a dour frustrating second half where one could only have sympathy for the Moneygall contingent who travelled so fair to see the game.

When the final whistle eventually blew Burgess were the victors on a sore line of 0-12 to 0-9. Burgess now advance to the Dr. Fogarty senior league where they will meet Clonoulty-Rossmore, a side they beat in last year’s semi-final of the same competition.
