the Goal

U14 Hurling:

u14B North Champions 2015

Congratulations to Burgess U14 hurling team on bridging a twenty year gap when they successfully overcame Newport Gaels in the U14b north final last Saturday in Toomevara on a score-line of Burgess 4-12 Newport Gaels 1-06. Burgess went into this game as underdogs fielding a very young side which included five U12s on the starting line out. Burgess started well scoring 1-02 without reply. At half time the score was Burgess 2-08 Newport  Gaels 5 points. Newport Gaels were out of the blocks early in the second half scoring 1 01 without reply to leave 5 points between the teams. After a few tactical switches by Burgess Management, we started to take control of the second half. Burgess finished strong with the final score Burgess 4-12 Newport Gaels 1 -06. This result was due to the great team work, high work rate and skilful hurling by all the Burgess players. A big thank you to their management Tony, Mike, Eoin, Tommy, Liam, Eoin and Pat. Also a big thanks to Muiris O’Keeffe and Willie Ryan for their medical assistance on the day.  Thanks for the great support it was much appreciated. Hard luck to Newport Gaels.  We now have the county semi-final to look forward to against the south champions in two weeks’ time.
