Burgess GAA Notes 2nd May 2016

Senior Hurling:

We play Holycross in our final group game of the county championship in Templemore on Sunday 8th of May at 2pm. This game will decide the winner of the group and who will advance in the county championship. Our lads must win, a draw will do Holycross. I’m sure our boys can count on massive support from the parish on Sunday next.

Junior A hurling:

We are currently in third position in Group 1 of the North Tipp Junior “A” league. Our next game in this competition will be against Templederry at a time, venue and date to be confirmed at the time of writing. Please keep an eye on the clubs social media for further information and updates.

Minor Football:

Hard luck to our minor footballers who were well beaten by a very strong Borrisokane outfit on Wednesday last. We wish Borris the best of luck in the final.

We would like to send our best wishes to club stalwart Cian McDonnell and Ciara Fannon who were recently married in sunny Spain.

Well done also to Ciardha Maher and Katie O’Flaherty who were part of the victorious Tipperary minor camogie team in the All Ireland “A” minor hurling final replay at the weekend. Well done girls we are very proud of you.

Frank McGrath: Youghalarra’s Influential Republican Leader:

Historian and former Burgess hurler Liam Hogan has penned a timely article about his great granduncle the Republican leader and the man after whom the north senior cup is named, Frank McGrath. Given the current focus around the 1916 anniversary it is appropriate that we look back at Frank’s experiences before during and after the rising. It’s a fascinating well-researched  piece that’s well worth a read. The article, which Liam promises is only part one of a two part series, can be read online at the following address.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last week’s draw held in Reidy’s, Nenagh. The numbers drawn were 5, 7, 21 & 28. This week’s draw was held in Barry’s, Newtown. The Jackpot was €7,500. Next week’s Draw will be in Molly Ban’s, Nenagh on Monday 9th May.
