Retirement Party:

We had a wonderful celebration in the meeting room on Friday night last to give thanks to Ann McGrath for all the work she has done in the club. Presentations were made on behalf of the Senior, Juvenile, Camogie and Handball clubs to mark Ann’s retirement from FAS.

Ann’s legacy can be seen every day in the quality of the playing surface and the high standards of our facilities in Kilcolman. We sincerely hope she has a great retirement

Burgess GAA Notes 1st August 2016

Chris Cooney R.I.P.

chris

On Thursday last we were saddened to learn of the passing of club president Chris Cooney. Chris had been a fantastic club man throughout his life and will missed by all his friends in Burgess GAA. We would like to extend our sympathy to his wife Kit children Paddy, Kevin, Deirdre, Brian and Catherine. And to all his grandchildren, friends and relatives.

A few words from Michael Slattery Burgess Juvenile Club chairman in honour of the late Chris Cooney RIP.

On behalf of the Burgess Juvenile Club, I would like to offer our condolences to the family of the late Chris Cooney. Having grown up at the same time as his children I, along with most other lads my age in this parish, would have been befriended by Chris below in the hurling field. He had a great love for and connection to the the young. In later years he got to return to the field, this time with his grandchildren. The obvious pleasure people took in seeing him back says far more about the man than any words can convey. He will be remembered with a smile

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

Senior Hurling:

Once again the magical heroic Tipperary footballers have scuppered our efforts to play Borrisokane in the North Senior Hurling championship. The earliest date being whispered about for this fixture is the 16th of August should the Tipp hurlers lose but sure nobody wants that. The good news, however, is that we will play Upperchurch Drombane in the final of the Johnny Ryan senior league on Saturday 6th August at 7pm in Dolla. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Junior A Hurling:

Our game against Toomevara scheduled for last Friday was postponed as a mark of respect for Chris Cooney. Our next game will be on Friday coming against Nenagh.
