Burgess GAA Notes 16th September 2019

Senior Hurling:

Our seniors qualified for the North semi-final after a hard fought 2-14 to 2-12 win over Ballina on Saturday last. Borris-Ileigh provide the opposition on Sunday next in Nenagh at 3:30pm. Our game will follow the other semi-final in the same venue between Kiladangan and Templederry which throws in at 2pm. We wish our lads the very best of luck.

U14 Hurling:


Our u14’s came up just short against a very strong JK Brackens outfit in the county final on Saturday last. Several of our players are u12 and will have 2 more years at this grade which makes their achievements this year all the more remarkable. Thanks to the mentors and players for all their efforts this year.

Club Gear:

Burgess GAA Clubs are currently in the process of setting up a Burgess GAA Online Shop with O’Neills. Club members and supporters will be able to log on and purchase products in club colours directly from the site. Such products will include different designs/styles of jackets, training tops, hooded tops, polo shirts, skinny pants, shorts etc. Club jersey’s, shorts, socks & other accessories will also be available. We have been informed by O’Neills that this process may take up to 6 weeks. We will keep you updated as our shop gets stocked up.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last Monday night’s club lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 8, 16, 23 & 29. The lucky dip winners were Jamie Maxwell D Pallas Bar, Dave Hunt Youghalarra Way & Ann McDonnell Carrigatoher. The sellers prize went to Jonathan Ryan.This week’s draw was in Reidys for a Jackpot of €3,700.

Burgess GAA Notes 8th May 2017

Senior Hurling:


Well done to our seniors who had a comprehensive 1-21 to 0-10 win in the north championship on Sunday last. This win was especially impressive considering to amount of players that were unavailable. We would like to congratulate on of those unavailable players, Niall McGrath, who took off out foreign to get engaged at the weekend.
Our next county game will be against Mullinahone on Saturday May 27th at 2pm in Templemore.

Junior A Hurling:
Our juniors will take on Knockshegowna on Saturday May 13th in Kilcolman at 6.30pm in the North League. This has been changed from the advertised 7pm to 6.30pm.
u16 Football:
Hard luck to the U16s tonight who went down fighting against a strong Ballina team in the North Final. Great rally in the second half to respond to those Ballina goals. Another well turned out team from Burgess. They are a great credit to the parish and the lads over them.
Congratulations & best of luck to the Ballina GAA lads in the county championship.

Darkness into Light:


Well done all who were part of the Burgess GAA team who volunteered to stewards at this years Darkness into Light. It was fantastic and worthwhile event.
Our u10’s took park in a football blitz in Dr Morris park on Saturday last where they had three games. The boys had a great time, well done to all.
Thursday night Cards:
The 45 on Thursdays will take a break for the Summer and return in September. This has been a huge success – thanks to all who organised and attended.
Schools Camogie:


Well done to our girls on the Burgess NS U/11 team. After winning all their games last week they are now through to the county final in Thurles! Best of luck to all.
Representative Hurling:
Well done to Stephen Kirwan who was part of the North Tipp team who beat North Clare last week.
Walking Group:
The Walking Group will meet as usual at 7pm this Thursday in Kilcolman and travel on to Coum for a hill walk. Again, all are welcome.
Striking Video:
With our minor and underage hurlers in mind we have created this instructional video on striking (the ball!). We would urge all of our players and their parents alike to take a look at the footage and take on board some the tips shown.
And who better to demonstrate striking but current senior hurler and one of the best strikers of the ball you’re likely see, our very own Stephen Murray.

There was no winner of last Monday nights lotto jackpot. Numbers drawn were 5, 18, 19 & 22. Lucky dip winners were Michael O’Brien Nenagh, Michael Ryan Ballyhiskey & Joe Cooney Newtown. Sellers prize Muiris O’Keeffe. This weeks draw was in D Pallas Bar. Jackpot €3,450.

Please note that the minor hurling match v Port is now GOING AHEAD tomorrow eve at 6.30, Tuesday April 11th in Kilcoleman. Please support if you can. This late fixture change is not ideal for us to say the least, man power wise.

Nenagh Guardian 2016 Sports Awards:

The inaugural Nenagh Guardian Sports awards were held on Friday night last in the Abbey Court hotel and the first recipient of the Guardians Hall Of fame Award was our own Donie Nealon. The night itself was a was ran in as professional manner as you could imagine and was a credit to Shane Brophy and all at The Nenagh Guardian. Donie’s family, friends along with a sizeable Burgess and Burgess Duharra contingent were there to show their support for our most famous son.
It was fitting that the first inductee to the Guardians Hall of Fame was Donie, his extraordinary sporting achievements and formidable body of work off the field made an awe inspiring list. We in Burgess GAA extend our congratulations to Donie, the true definition of a Hall of Famer.
We would also like to congratulate the Camogie Club who the monthly award winner for October. A fitting recognition for their four in a row of senior county Camogie titles.
Juvenile AGM:
Burgess Juvenile Club are holding their AGM next Friday night 29th January at 8pm in Kilcoleman. All parents are requested to attend this meeting.

Senior Hurling 2016:
The draw was made for the 2016 county senior chmpionship on Sunday last and Burgess were drawn into what pundits quickly dubbed, Roinn 2’s group of death, featuring Toomevara, Moyne Templetouhey and Holycross Ballycahill. The draw for the North Senior championship has been deferred to a later date. We wish our lads every success in the coming season.

Little all Stars 2016:
Little all stars will continue on Saturday mornings at 10am in Kilcoleman. We would like to thank all of our volunteer’s who have made the project such a success for the kids.
Club Lotto:
There was no winner of last week’s draw held in Barry’s, Newtown. The numbers drawn were 17, 18, 21 & 26. This week’s draw was held in Molly Ban’s, Nenagh. The Jackpot was €5,400.
