Burgess GAA Notes 23rd September 2019

Senior Hurling:

After a titanic battle and 2 bouts of extra time our lads bowed out of the north championship. After almost 2 solid hours of hurling the final score read Borris-Ileigh 1-32 to 2-24. Our lads gave it their all but just wasn’t to be. Commiserations to our lads and the best of luck to Borris in the North final next weekend.

We have been drawn against neighbours Portroe inour senior A relegation match. The winner stays up, the loser goes down to senior B. There’s no official fixture made yet but it will be played around October 5th/6th. We wish our lads the very best of luck and are looking for massive Burgess support for them on the day.

Liam McCarthy school visits:

Club men Donagh Maher & Ronan Tucker along with Mikey Breen and the All Ireland cups will be paying a visit to the 2 national schools next Tuesday 24th as follows: Youghalarra NS 9.30 to 10.15 & Burgess NS 10.30 to 11.15

U11 Hurling:

Both our u11 teams were knocked out at the weekend, the D team were beaten 1-3 to 1-2 by Ballinahinch in the plate semi final and the B team were beaten by Silvermines 4-5 to 2-5. Hard luck lads.

Club Gear:

Burgess GAA Clubs are currently in the process of setting up a Burgess GAA Online Shop with O’Neills. Club members and supporters will be able to log on and purchase products in club colours directly from the site. Such products will include different designs/styles of jackets, training tops, hooded tops, polo shirts, skinny pants, shorts etc. Club jersey’s, shorts, socks & other accessories will also be available. We have been informed by O’Neills that this process may take up to 6 weeks. We will keep you updated as our shop gets stocked up.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last Monday night’s jackpot. The numbers drawn were 4, 9, 28 & 30. The lucky dip winners were Declan Kirwan Tullamore Park, Marie Helebert Beleen & Willie Daly c/o Molly Bans. Sellers prize Breda Maher. This week’s draw was in Barry’s for a Jackpot of €3,800.

Burgess Gaa Notes 30th April 2018

Senior Hurling:

Our seniors, short our county man Donagh Maher, were well beaten by Nenagh Éire Óg last Sunday evening on a final score line of 2-23 to 0-9 in the North quarter final. Hard luck lads and the best of luck to Nenagh in the semi-final.

U12 Football:

We’d like to congratulate our gallant u12 footballers who had a 4-3 to 4-2 win over Kilruane in Ardcroney on Thursday last in north ‘B’ semifinal. Well done all and the best of luck in the final.

Juvenile Fixtures:

This Weeks Juvenile Fixtures: U16 Football away to Borrisokane Tuesday at 7pm. U14 Football away to Newport Wednesday at 7pm. Under 12 North Final on Saturday Morning in Templederry (tbc) All Support greatly appreciated

Darkness into light:

The Nenagh Darkness Into Light 5k walk have asked the club to support the event by stewarding a kilometre of the event on Saturday morning May 12. You still get to walk the course but first direct people in the middle stage. If you would like to volunteer for this worthy cause, please contact Fergal McDonnell at 085 7254855

Club lotto:

There was no winner of last Monday night’s club lotto jackpot. The Numbers drawn were 2, 10, 12 & 25. The Lucky dip winners were Pat c/o Newtown Post Office, Jack O’Flaherty Youghal & Holly Fitzsimons c/o J Grace. The Sellers prize went to Shane Maher. This week’s draw was in Reidy’s for a Jackpot of €6,350.

Burgess GAA Notes 14th August 2017

Senior Hurling:

We were defeated in our final group game of the county championship by Éire Óg Annacarty 2-20 to 1-17. This loss puts us into a four way relegation play off against Ballina, Carrick Swan and Kiladangan with two to go down. Kiladangan and Carrick Swan can escape relegation should they manage to win their divisional championships. We play Coolderry next week in Kilcolman in the Dermot Hogan Memorial tournament.

Juvenile clothes collection:


Burgess Juvenile Club are holding clothes collection on Saturday 26th August. Bags of clothes can be dropped to Kilcoleman any night during training between now and 26th August or bags can be dropped off to Derek Sharkey or Patricia Gibson.

Junior A hurling:

We play Borris-ileigh in the north championship Friday August 18th at 7pm in Kilcolman.

Minor Hurling:

Our minors were beaten by Clonakenny/Moneygall in the minor ‘B’ championship in Kilcolman on Friday last on a score line of Burgess 2-13 ClonaKenny/Moneygall 4-10. Hard luck lads, you put in a great effort.

U16 Hurling:


Burgess U16 played Borrisokane in round 3 of the north championship on Tuesday last at 7pm in Kilcoleman. In what was a keenly contested game with only a puck of the ball separating the teams throughout. Borrisokane lead by 2 points at half time. The game continued in the same vain for the second half with both teams fighting for every possession and score. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be Burgess day as we went down by 3 points on a final score line of Burgess 2-07, Borrisokane 1-13. Burgess can be proud of their work rate and this was their best performance so far.

U10 Hurling:

Our u10’s played a fantastic challenge against Roscrea on Saturday last. Thanks to Roscrea for coming up to us for the game. Plenty of stars for the future on show for both sides.

Club lotto:

There was no winner of last week’s club lotto draw the numbers drawn were, 2, 16, 23 & 29. The three €40 winners were Eimear Griffin Kylebeg, Mary Fogarty Pallas and Tom Martin Borrisoleigh. The sellers prize went to John Maher. This week’s draw was held in Barry’s for a jackpot of €5,550.

Burgess GAA Notes 5th October 2015

Burgess GAA Lotto Draw:

There was one winner of last week’s lotto held in Reidy’s, Newtown. Congratulations to Vera Ryan, Kilcolman who scooped the jackpot €6,600!. The numbers drawn were 4, 11, 15 & 23. The presentation of Vera’s prize money will take place in Reidy’s, Newtown on Monday 26th October.

This week’s draw was in Ashlawn Nursing Home, Carrigatoher. The Jackpot was €3,000. Next week’s draw will be in Molly Ban’s, Nenagh on Monday 12th October. Best of luck to all and thanks to each and every one of you for your continued support. Tickets are €2 each. Play today!

U21 Hurling:

Our u21’s were defeated on Sunday last by Borris Ileigh 2-18 to 0-11.

U13 Hurling:

Our u13’s fought hard to gain a tough win away to Portroe in the plate semi-final on Friday last. We wish the boys the very best of luck in the final.

U11 Football:

Our u11 footballers took part in The James O’Rourke memorial tournament in Newport on Saturday last. The lads played very well and were unlucky to be narrowly beaten by two points by Kilfenora in the B final.

Camogie:

Well done to the Burgess-Duharra camogie ladies who qualified, yet again, for the county camogie final against Drom & Inch after an epic battle with Moneygall on Sunday last. We wish the girls the very best of luck in the county final on Sunday next.

Burgess GAA notes 28th September 2015

Martin O’Leary Memorial Tournament:

Well done to Ballina who won the u11 Martin O’Leary memorial tournament in Kilcolman on Saturday last and thanks to Silvermines who also took part. Aidan and Helen O’Leary presented the trophy to the winning captain Max Ryan. It was a fitting memorial to Martin who gave so much to the Burgess Juvenile club.

The Bring n Buy which also took place in the complex on Saturday last was a great success and we would like to thank all who supported it.

U21B Hurling:

Our u21’s begin their North championship campaign on Sunday October 4th in Nenagh against Borris Ileigh at 3:30. All support is greatly appreciated. All always this fixture is subject to change so please keep an eye on the fixtures section of the Guardian and the clubs social media outlets for any late changes.

U6 and U8 Hurling:

Our u8’s and u6’s had their last get together on Saturday last in Kilcolman. We thank Mick O’Dwyer and hid team for taking such great care of our future hurlers.

Senior Hurling:

Our senior hurlers were defeated by the narrowest of margins at the weekend by Borris-Ileigh in the county championship. As a result we will now hurl in Roinn 2 next year. We face Kilruane in our opening game of the North championship on Sunday 17th May at 2:30 in Nenagh. I’m sure we can count on your support once again.

U12 Football:

Burgess u12 Panel who defeated Newport in the North Semi-Final

Our under 12’s had a great win in their north semi-final over Newport last week , 4-7 to 0-3 was the final score. The north final due to be played last Saturday against Moneygall was called off due to pitch conditions. Keep an eye on the club social media for the re-fixture.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of Monday 4th’s  Jackpot.The numbers Drawn were 2, 10, 14 & 19.This week’s Draw was in Ciss Ryan’s Garrkennedy.
