Burgess GAA Notes 23rd January 2017

AGM:

The club held its annual general meeting on Friday last in Kilcolman. The meeting was preceded by a Mass for deceased members of the club and afterwards club chairman Mike Carroll presented Father Tim O’Brien P.P. with a plaque for his golden jubilee.


The AGM was a well attended and we’ll run affair with comprehensive reviews of the year from the chairman, secretary and treasurer.

Camogie Club All Ireland semi final:

We wish the Burgess Duharra ladies the very best of luck in their all Ireland quest and we would urge as many of our members as possible to make the trip to Inniskeen to support them.

Details of Buses:

Senior All Ireland Camogie Final in Monaghan next Sunday 29th January, anyone else wishing to reserve a seat on the bus leaving at 9.30/10am, please contact the camogie club on+353 (83) 432 1777 by the evening of Wednesday 25th for the remaining places. Please note that only people who have reserved in advance will be able to travel on the bus.

Juvenile AGM:

Burgess Juvenile GAA Club AGM will be held on Friday 27th January at 8pm in Kilcoleman. All parents are requested to attend.
Ramble to Kilcolman: 

A night of cards, tea and chat will begin next Thursday night from 8pm in Kilcolman. Anyone interested in playing 45 in the parish is more than welcome.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last Monday nights lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 4, 9, 17 & 27. The Lucky dip winners were Libby, Farrah & Ben Stanley Newtown, Laureen McKenna Newtown & Hugh Sullivan c/o Francie Walsh. Sellers prize Tom Delee. This weeks draw was in D Pallas Bar for a Jackpot of €6,600.

Support for the Burgess Duharra Camogie team:


As you may be aware the Duharra ladies have to play their all Ireland semi final against Slaughtneil in Inniskeen GAA ground, Monaghan, on January 29th at 2.00pm. We ask all who can to please try and make the long journey to support the Burgess Duharra women as they continue their historic quest to reach a first all Ireland final. To help offset their costs they will be holding a race night in Barry’s on Saturday January 14th at 9pm. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

 Some useful information below for anyone considering joining the burgeoning ranks of Burgess referees.

Basic Club Referee Training Courses are provided every two years by trained Referee Tutors in County Tipperary. Held over 4 nights in Thurles, the course is developed in conjunction with Croke Park and supported through the Provincial Munster Referees Administrators. Dates for the Training Course are as follows;

Training as a Club Referee involves the following modules:

Rules of Specification / The Play / Scores/ Powers and Duties of the Referee Technical Fouls / Set Play / Aggressive Fouls / Dissent / Referee’s Report / Rules Test / Fitness Test 

Modules are “classroom” based and involve attendance and participation by the prospective referees. A timed Rules Test is centrally organised by Croke Park, which the participants complete “on-line”, with a pass-mark set which must be achieved for successful progression 

An initial trial Fitness Test, i.e. a “BANGSBO or BEEP Test” will be used to familiarise new entrants with the levels required. A standard test will be used later in the year to monitor progression with a view to the achievement of a minimum standard required for qualification.

Following successful completion of the Training Course the successful candidate is certified as qualified by Coiste Ríaracháin Réiteoirí Contae Tiobrad Árann as a Réiteoir Chlub or Club Level Referee. It is recommended for Foundation Referees to be appointed to referee games up to and including U14 for a period of 2 years.  

We are now seeking applications from interested individuals, who are considering taking up the role as Club Referee and applications must be submitted through their respective Club Secretary on the relevant Application Form which is available online on the Tipperary GAA website. Please note all applications must be accompanied by a cheque for €100, from the applicant’s home club, which will be refunded after officiating at ten games. Completed application forms accompanied by €100 cheque only should be forwarded to Paul Stapleton, Secretary, Tipperary Referees Administration Committee, Lár na Páirce, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

All clubs who do not currently have a referee in their club are encouraged to trawl their membership for prospective candidates.

ONGOING Referee Development 

Current Referees are reminded the compulsory Fitness Assessment and Rules Test are confirmed for 7.30pm on the 19th Jan and 9th Feb 2017 in The Dome Thurles, while the annual IN SERVICE will be held at 7.30pm on 16th January and 20th February in the Sarsfields Social Centre, Thurles.

Munster senior camogie semi-final:

A packed Kilcoleman

Thanks to everyone who helped with the preparations ahead of the Munster club camogie semi-final in Kilcoleman at the weekend. The pitch was in great condition and colour was magnificent around the field. We would also like to thank all the las who helped out with the stewarding and car parking on the day. Commiserations to the Burgess Duharra girls, they hurled so well against such strong opposition.

BURGESS GAA LOTTO DRAW:

There was no winner of last week’s jackpot held in Molly Ban’s, Nenagh. The numbers drawn were 1, 6, 13 & 17. This week’s draw was in Barry’s Newtown. The Jackpot was €3,750. Burgess GAA Lotto Draw:

There was one winner of last week’s lotto held in Reidy’s, Newtown. Congratulations to Vera Ryan, Kilcolman who scooped the jackpot €6,600!. The numbers drawn were 4, 11, 15 & 23. The presentation of Vera’s prize money will take place in Reidy’s, Newtown on Monday 26th October.

This week’s draw was in Ashlawn Nursing Home, Carrigatoher. The Jackpot was €3,000. Next week’s draw will be in Molly Ban’s, Nenagh on Monday 12th October. Best of luck to all and thanks to each and every one of you for your continued support. Tickets are €2 each. Play today!

U21 Hurling:

Our u21’s were defeated on Sunday last by Borris Ileigh 2-18 to 0-11.

U13 Hurling:

Our u13’s fought hard to gain a tough win away to Portroe in the plate semi-final on Friday last. We wish the boys the very best of luck in the final.

U11 Football:

Our u11 footballers took part in The James O’Rourke memorial tournament in Newport on Saturday last. The lads played very well and were unlucky to be narrowly beaten by two points by Kilfenora in the B final.

Camogie:

Well done to the Burgess-Duharra camogie ladies who qualified, yet again, for the county camogie final against Drom & Inch after an epic battle with Moneygall on Sunday last. We wish the girls the very best of luck in the county final on Sunday next.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of Monday 14th club lotto jackpot.  The numbers drawn were 5, 9, 10 & 18. The  4x25euro winners were; Deirdre Hough c/o Paddy Cooney,  Jane Quinlan Newtown,  Michael Breen c/o Ciss Ryans and Tim & Josie Frawley Burgess. The draw on Monday night 21st of October took place in Molly ban’s for a jackpot of €5,000. Next weeks draw on Monday 28th October will take place in Barrys pub in Newtown.

County Draw:

We will soon begin work on the clubs five year plan if you have any ideas you would like to add to the discussion please keep an eye on the clubs notes and social media pages for information on when these meetings will take place. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

A talk will be given in Kilcolaman on this Tuesday 15th of October at 8pm by Jim Minogue and Denis Floyd outlining the ideas and aim of creating a five year.
