MATCH REPORT: Burgess 3-13 JK Brackens 0-9 senior county league 2017

Senior County League

Kilcolman 9th April 2017

Burgess 3-13 JK Brackens 0-9

Burgess had things well under control for the 1st quarter of an hour of this game with a lead of 1-5 to 0-2. The Burgess scores coming from Bill O’Flaherty, Stephen Murray, Eoin Hogan and Danny Ryan. Ryan goaled after collecting a break from a long range John O’Dwyer free and his finish was the definition of clinical. Stephen Murray caught the eye too with a point from a monstrous side line cut. Brackens to their credit launched a comeback after being stung by the concession of the goal and hit three on the trot to leave just a goal between the teams with 25 minutes gone.  That however was a close as Brackens would get as three more Burgess point’s courtesy of Stephen Murray and Keith Nealon left the half time score Burgess 1-8 JK Brackens 0-9.

Burgess got off to a blistering start to the second half and stretched their lead to 2-9 to 0-6 within a couple of minutes of the restart. Murray was first to register with a point followed by Eoin Leahy Hogan who bagged the goal with an expertly placed shot past the Brackens keeper. Five minutes later Burgess heaped on more misery for Brackens through Bill O’Flaherty who also found the net. Brackens tried hard but just couldn’t unlock the Burgess defence. They even had a penalty rebound off the upright only to be cleared down the field. Burgess ran out comfortable winners in the end with a final score line of Burgess 3-13 JK Brackens 0-9.

And Another

Burgess Blitz Annacarty

Burgess v Eire Og Annacarty Dr. Fogarty senior league quarter final.

Warm down

Annacarty made a good start to this Dr. Fogarty League Quarter final registering their first point after only a minute of play. This early score was cancelled out with interest a minute later when John O’Brien took a Stephen Murray pass and crashed the ball to the net.

This set the tone for the rest of the half. Points by Tadgh O’Halloran, John O’Brien and Mike O’Flaherty along with an excellent goal by Eoin Hogan had us in a healthy 2-4 to 0-1 lead with 11 minutes elapsed. Two quick Annacarty points around the 13 minute mark and the Burgess Blitz resumed with another fine goal this time from Stephen Murray. There then followed four more Burgess points to Annacarty’s one for the remainder of the half to leave interval score, Burgess 3-8 to Annacarty’s 0-4. The Burgess points coming from Murray and O’Brien.

Annacarty were slow to come out of the dressing rooms for the second half and Burgess added to their tally inside the first minute with a fine point by Eoin Hogan. Burgess remained dominant with excellent points from play by Peter and Conor Gill. Jack O’Flaherty sallied forth from his corner back position to add his name to the score sheet also with a fantastic long range effort but the scores of the half came from two Murray line balls.

Annacarty finished strongly in a game that was really never in doubt for Burgess with five unanswered pointed frees in the last 10 minute to leave the final score Burgess 3-16 Annacarty 0-13.

Team: Brian Sherlock, Paddy Hogan, Johnny Mulqueen, Jack O’Flaherty(0-1), Shane Maher, Donagh Maher, Timmy Hogan, Mike O’Flaherty(0-1), Peter Gill(0-1), Danny Ryan, John O’Brien(1-2), Tadgh O’Halloran(0-1), Keith Nealon, Eoin Leahy Hogan(1-1), Stephen Murray(1-8).
