The first half was close with Burgess always leading. Score at HT Burgess 0-08 Newport 0-05. A much improved second half performance from Burgess restricted Newport to two points both frees. VIDEO: Striking the ball, an instructional video.

With our minor and underage hurlers in mind we have created this instructional video on striking (the ball!). We would urge all of our players and their parents alike to take a look at the footage and take on board some the tips shown.
And who better to demonstrate striking but current senior hurler and one of the best strikers of the ball you’re likely see, our very own Stephen Murray.
We would like to thank Declan Kirwan, whose brainchild this project this is, for his vision and for putting the work into producing this video. We would also like to thank Fergal McDonnell for his input and for doing such a professional job with the editing. Finally thanks to Stephen Murray and Stephen Kirwan who did so well in front of the cameras.

Burgess minors march on to North final

Minor B hurling semi-final

Burgess 3-20 Silvermines 1-11

The Burgess minor hurlers put in a masterful first half performance against the Silvermines in the North B semi-final in Nenagh on Tuesday evening last. Such was their dominance that it took 15 minutes for the Silvermines to register their first score.

Burgess dominated every line of the field and were worth every bit of their 3-12 to 1-2 lead at half time. Among the highlights of this dazzling first half performance were Keith Nealon’s two pointed line balls, one from either side of the field!

With the game effectively over at half time, Silvermines to their credit, never dropped their heads and fought gamely throughout the second half but it was to no avail. The Burgess scores kept coming and the resolute defending of the Burgess backs wouldn’t allow the mines in for the goals they so desperately needed.

This victory is especially pleasing considering we had been well beaten in Dolla by this highly thought of Mines outfit earlier in the championship. Great credit is due to players and management for the huge improvements that have been made and we can now look forward to a North final battle against Ballina on Sunday 8th September at 6pm in Nenagh. I’m sure our boys can be sure of getting the massive support from the whole parish that they so richly deserve.
EDIT* this match has been postponed until Sunday 15th of September
