Burgesss GAA Notes 9th October 2017

Martin O’Leary Tournament:

The u11 Martin O’Leary tournament took place on Saturday last in kilcolman with four teams taking part. Kilruane, Kiladangan, Portroe and our own boys. The event went off well with Kilruane running out deserving winners. We’d like to thank Kilruane Port and Kiladangan for taking part and all in the juvenile club who organised the event and provided refreshments on the day. Thanks also to our intercounty star Donagh Maher who presented the medals and thanks also to Martin’s son Aidan who presented the trophy.

U13 Hurling:

Our u13’s, missing a good few, gave favourite’s Ballinahinch/Templederry a fright in the quarter final on Saturday evening in Kilcolman. Unfortunately the result didn’t go our way with our lads losing by a single point after a great battling performance.

Cards Night:

Cards night continues every Thursday in Kilcoleman (new building) at 8pm. We’d love to see new 45 players as well as those who were involved last year. A beginners table will be there too. Lots of laughs and chat with a cup of tea.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last Mondays nights lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 2, 14, 16 & 28. Lucky dip winners were Aoife Hogan c/o Timmy Hogan, Tom Mulcahy Carrigal & Frances Walsh Nenagh. Sellers prize John Flannery. This weeks draw was in Reidy’s for a Jackpot of €3,450.

Junior A football:

Our junior footballers, short four or five lads for various reasons, put in a great performance on Saturday last in the county quarter final v Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams in Kilcommon. A few missed chances meant it wasn’t to be our day but our lads have the small matter of a north final against Portroe to look forward to. Time date and venue for the north final were not known at the time of writing please see the Guardian fixtures and the clubs social media for further information.
Juvenile Hurling:
Our u6’s, u8’s and u10’s played their end of year games in Moneygall on Sunday last and after a few hardy games of hurling the lads had a fine appetite worked up for treats in Obama Plaza. We’d like to send out a big thank you to all the coaches who put so much of their time into preparing the next crop of Burgess hurlers. Going on the skills on shown future of Burgess hurling is certainly bright.

Senior Hurling:

Our disappointing year drew to a close on Sunday last when we were beaten 2-20 to 2-8 by Kiladangan and were relegated to Roinn 2 next year. It’s been a tough year of injury, loss of personnel and just plain bad luck. We would like to thank the players and management for their hard work and efforts throughout the year.

Junior Football:

Our junior Footballers play Portroe in the North Final Wednesday September 27th at 7pm in Puckane. Please come down and give the lads your support.

Underage Hurling:

We had a busy week of underage action starting on Thursday last when our u9’s played a blitz in Shallee. On Friday our u11’s were beaten 1-9 to 1-5 away to a very strong Lorrha side. Then on Saturday former Burgess hurler John McKenna brought the Pallasgreen u6, u8 and u10 teams to Kilcolman for a series of challenge matches. We would like to thank Pallasgreen for making the journey up to us. The weekend was capped off in style for our young players when our u10’s had a fine win over Kiladangan plate final in Cloughjordan.
