U11 Indoor Hurling:

U11 hurling concluded this week with victories for Green & Yellow Shamrocks in the cup and Cuala in the plate. In all five teams with a total of twenty five boys took part in wall ball and alley drills as well as a league of indoor games. We would like to thank Fergal McDonnell, Micheál Ryan, Edmund Ryan and David Kyne for their hard work coaching, refereeing and organising the sessions and games. It was fantastic to see how much the lads enjoyed the games while also brining on their skills. Well done to all.

Winter activities

Thanks to Fergal McDonnell and his team who ran this years winter activities nights in Kilcolman. The final evening was last Thursday night and was as usual great fun for the children of 1st and 2nd class of the parish.

Club lotto:

There was no winner of last Monday night’s lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 9, 11, 18 & 29. The lucky dip winners were Kaitlin O Halloran c/o Burgess Duharra Club, Marie Hughes Newtown & Jimmy Ryan Portroe. The sellers prize went to Morty Hogan. This weeks draw was in Barrys for a Jackpot of €4,350.

Munster inter firms champions:

Well done to the Burgess contingent of John O’Brien, Martin Fogarty and Kieran Ryan who were part of the Carey Glass inter firms team who defeated Suir engineering of Waterford in Thurles last week. Well done lads!

Burgess Gaa Notes 4th December 2017

Juvenile Presentation night:

The juvenile club held their presentation night on Friday last in Kilcolman. A large crowd was in attendance to see our county star Donagh Maher present medals to our double Feile winning u14 team as well as our u6, u8 and u10 teams. We’d like to send out a big thank you to Donagh for being so generous with his time, the boys got a big kick out of meeting him. Well done too to chairman Derek Sharkey & Eimear O’Keefe who did a great job of organising the event.

A fundraising cards night in aid of the community alert will be held in Kilcoleman on Thursday December 6th at 8pm. Tickets are €5 and all are welcome to attend.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last Monday nights club lotto jackpot. The Numbers drawn were 15, 23, 26 & 29. The Lucky dip winners were Donal Gleeson c/o Johnny G, Michael McCathy c/o Johnny G & Gabby Reidy Newtown. The Sellers prize went to Fergal McDonnell. This week’s draw was in Reidy’s. Jackpot €4,250.

Sympathy:

We extend our condolences the family of Kathleen (Kay) Howard who passed away recently. Funeral mass is on Tuesday December 5th at 11am in Youghalarra church Newtown with burial in Youghalarra Cemetery afterwards. May she rest in peace.

Burgess Juvenile club are holding their annual presentation night in Kilcoleman on Friday 1st December at 6pm. Medals will be presented by Donagh Maher.  We are also having our annual raffle . Tickets will be distributed this week please support this vital fundraiser for the juvenile club.

Junior A football:

Our footballers, despite battling hard, were undone by two goals just after half time in the North final in Portroe on Saturday last. It was an entertaining game despite the horrible conditions. Hard luck to our lads and congratulations to Portroe. Final score Burgess 1-10 Portroe 3-9.

u21 hurling:

Our u21’s play Silvemines in the North ‘B’ semi final this Saturday November 4th in Nenagh at 2:30. All support is greatly appreciated.

Aerobics:

Please be aware that this week step aerobics is on Tuesdays and step and bar is on Tuesdays at 7.15 in Kilcoleman! Classes are 45mins and €5 pay as you go. Beginners welcome!

Congratulations:

Congratulations to the Burgess – Duharra  ladies who are through to another Munster final after their comprehensive 4-18 to 1-7 win over Granagh Ballingarry

Burgess Duharra will face Inagh Kilnamona in the Munster final after they defeated Inniscarra in the other semi final today 0-15 to 1-10. Best of luck in the final ladies!

We would like to express our immense pride in the achievements of the Burgess Duharra senior camogie team who captured their 6th successive county title in style at the weekend. We would like to wish them the best of luck in the Munster championship.

 

u21 Hurling:

Our u21’s travelled to Shallee on Sunday morning last and recorded a fine 0-18 to 0-12 win over Ballina. We hurled against the wind in slippery conditions our lads laid the foundations for the win with a great first half defensive performance. Well done lads.

Martin O’Leary tournament:

The u11 Martin O’Leary tournament took place on Saturday October 7th in Kilcolman with four teams taking part. Kilruane, Kiladangan, Portroe and our own boys. The event went off well with Kilruane running out deserving winners. We’d like to thank Kilruane Port and Kiladangan for taking part and all in the juvenile club who organised the event and provided refreshments on the day. Thanks also to our intercounty star Donagh Maher who presented the medals and thanks also to Martin’s son Aidan who presented the trophy.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last week’s club lotto draw. The numbers drawn were 12, 19, 24 & 26. This week’s lucky dip €40 winners were, Bernadette McKenna Newtown, Mary Ryan Ballyhogan and Martin Browne c/o D Pallas Bar. Pat Cremin claimed the seller’s prize. This week’s draw was held in Barry’s for a jackpot of €3550.

Junior Football:




Well done to our junior footballers who qualified for the north final after defeating Shannon Rovers on Friday last.

Senior Hurling:

Our seniors take on Ballina this weekend in their first relegation playoff game. See the Guardian fixtures and the clubs social media for further details.

U21 Hurling:

We play Ballina on Saturday Sept 16th in Portroe at 6pm.

Fundraising:

At a committee meeting on Tuesday night last it was decided to set up a finance/fundraising team to organise fundraisers with the intention of building a ball wall and astro turf pitch over the next few years! We are having a meeting on Thursday night at 8.30 in the new building in kilcoleman if anyone would like to join the group to get a few fundraisers going they are very welcome to attend. As the money will benefit both senior and juvenille club along with camogie we’re hoping to get people from all clubs in the parish involved! 

U13 alley ball tournament:


Well done to David Kyne and his u13’s who held an alley ball tournament in Youghalarra at the weekend. These tournaments are great way of honing lads skills well done to all.

Club Lotto:


There was one lucky winner of last Monday nights jackpot. Congratulations to Tom Shanahan, Nenagh. The Numbers drawn were 3, 9, 13 & 23. The Sellers prize went to Morty Hogan. This weeks draw was in D Pallas Bar for a Jackpot of €3,000 and where Tom and Alan Dower were presented with their winnings.
