Burgess GAA notes 30th September 2019

Senior Hurling:

Our senior hurlers fight for their senior A status against neighbour’s Portroe in Dolla on Sunday October 6th at 3:30pm. We are looking for massive Burgess support of our lads for their final game of 2019.
Martin O’Leary Memorial tournament:
We held our annual Martin O’Leary u11 memorial tournament on Saturday last. It was a huge success with Ballyskenach/Killavilla, Drom-Inch and Abbeydorney joining us for a festival of hurling. Ultimately it was the Burgess boys who claimed the win. Well done to all our players and management for their efforts this year and thanks to all the parents who helped out on Saturday. 
Camogie:
Best of luck to the Burgess Duharra senior camogie team who have reached the county final on October 12th where they will seek to win an amazing 7 titles in a row.
45 cards group: 
The 45 cards group will start up again next Thursday night Oct 3 in Kilcolman at 8pm. Enjoy a night of cards, chat and refreshments upstairs in the new building. There is lots of room for new players so just come along.
Club Lotto:
There was no winner of last Monday night’s jackpot, the numbers drawn were 2, 8, 21 & 28. The lucky dip winners were Tim Shanahan Capparoe, John Quigley Ballyhogan & Tim Walsh Kilruane. The sellers prize went to Dinny Ryan. This week’s draw was in D Pallas Bar. Jackpot €3,900.

Burgess GAA Notes 23rd September 2019

Senior Hurling:

After a titanic battle and 2 bouts of extra time our lads bowed out of the north championship. After almost 2 solid hours of hurling the final score read Borris-Ileigh 1-32 to 2-24. Our lads gave it their all but just wasn’t to be. Commiserations to our lads and the best of luck to Borris in the North final next weekend.

We have been drawn against neighbours Portroe inour senior A relegation match. The winner stays up, the loser goes down to senior B. There’s no official fixture made yet but it will be played around October 5th/6th. We wish our lads the very best of luck and are looking for massive Burgess support for them on the day.

Liam McCarthy school visits:

Club men Donagh Maher & Ronan Tucker along with Mikey Breen and the All Ireland cups will be paying a visit to the 2 national schools next Tuesday 24th as follows: Youghalarra NS 9.30 to 10.15 & Burgess NS 10.30 to 11.15

U11 Hurling:

Both our u11 teams were knocked out at the weekend, the D team were beaten 1-3 to 1-2 by Ballinahinch in the plate semi final and the B team were beaten by Silvermines 4-5 to 2-5. Hard luck lads.

Club Gear:

Burgess GAA Clubs are currently in the process of setting up a Burgess GAA Online Shop with O’Neills. Club members and supporters will be able to log on and purchase products in club colours directly from the site. Such products will include different designs/styles of jackets, training tops, hooded tops, polo shirts, skinny pants, shorts etc. Club jersey’s, shorts, socks & other accessories will also be available. We have been informed by O’Neills that this process may take up to 6 weeks. We will keep you updated as our shop gets stocked up.

Burgess Gaa Notes 8th October 2018

Tribute Night:

We held a long overdue and richly deserved tribute night to honour the great Donie Nealon on Friday last. Comrades from the great Tipp team of the 60’s that Donie soldiered with along with rivals from that era were in attendance along with representative of the ’71, ’89 and ’91 teams that DonIe mentored. His service to the Munster council was also marked with colleagues from his time there also speaking. All in all it was a marvellous night filled with great stories and fun. A DVD will be available from Jim Egan for a cost of €10 fir those who couldn’t make it and anyone who’d like a memento of the night. We would especially like to thank John Hogan and his committee for their (covert) hard work in organising this great night in honour of Donie. Special mention too to Sinead and Nuala Nealon who managed to make the whole night a surprise for Donie and all the guests from near and far who came for Donie’s special night.

The Chaser:

Senior Hurling:

Well done tour senior hurlers who survived a Templederry second half comeback and regain senior roinn 1 status after winning Saturdays Seamus O’Riain semi-final 2-17 to 2-14. We will now play Moycarkey Borris in the final in Semple stadium ON ssunday 21st October at 13:15. We are looking for big support on the day as our 1993 county intermediate winning team will be honoured on the day also.

U16 Football:

Our u16 footballers were well beaten by Anner Gaels in the county semi final at the weekend.

Marin O’Leary Tournament:

Kilruane, Kiladangan and ourselves shared the spoils in the Martin O’Leary tounamen which took place on Saturday last in Kilcolman. A big thank you to Portroe, Kiladangan and Kilruane for taking part.

Cards:

The 45 cards will start again next Thursday, 4th October at 8pm in the new building in Kilcolman. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible in attendance – both new and old players are very welcome.

Junior A Hurling:

Our game against Knockshegowna was postponed due to a bereavement in the knockshe club. Our next game is against Roscrea on Friday June 29th at 7:30pm in Toomevara.

U12 hurling:

Our u12 teams had mixed results last week with the Green team enjoying a good win over Borrisokane and the gold suffering an unlucky loss to Kiladangan.

U21 sevens tournament:

We have entered a team in Kiladangans Jim Egan Memorial U21 Sevens Hurling tournament which will take place on Saturday 23rd of June in Puckane at 1pm. All support is greatly appreciated.

Walking Group:

Our walkers are in full swing at the moment, taking trips all around north Tipp and beyond. Well done to Pat Delaney and co. on making this a real success. The group are always looking for new members to join them every Thursday evening. If you would like to join them please contact Pat Delaney or Fergal McDonnell (085 7254855)

Mothers and Others:

The girls are starting back to football training on Monday nights at 7pm in Kilcolman. This team is for any ladies who would like to train casually with a team and have a bit of fun. ALL are welcome. Contact 085 7254855 if you wish to join in.

Zumba Classes:

Zumba takes place each Tuesday night from 7.30 to 8.30 in Kilcoleman and classes are €6 pay as you go!

The Chaser:

As part of the clubs drive to finance the new juvenile hurling wall and astro surface we are proud to announce that in association with Pallas marketing that we will be the first club ever to hold the chaser this coming October in the Abbey Ciurt Hotel. Senior Hurling:

Our seniors took part in the inaugural Ger Grace 11 a side senior hurling tournament in Dolla on Saturday last. Our boys bowed out at the group stage after losing both their games narrowly to the eventual finalists Templederry and Mullinahone. We’d like to thank Silvermines for the invite to what was a very enjoyable, entertaining and well run tournament.

Junior A Hurling:

Our juniors begin their North championship campaign against Kilruane on Saturday June 6th in Nenagh at 7:30. All support is greatly appreciated.

The Chaser:

Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw:

The first draw for 2018/19 was held on Friday 25th May. Thanks to all our existing members who should have received their receipts in the post by now. We hope all will renew their membership for the coming year. New members are always welcome. There are cars and holidays to won every month. Senior Hurling:

Our seniors made a winning start to their Seamus Ó Riain campaign against Jk Brackens at the weekend and will face Templederry in the first round of the north championship on Sunday 22nd of April at 2pm in Nenagh.

Minor Hurling:

On Thursday last our minors fought hard to recover from a 1-9 to 0-5 half time deficit in the second period but unfortunately went down 3-15 to 0-11 to a powerful Ballinahinch/Templederry combo in the north ‘b’ minor championship tonight. Hard luck lads.

Junior A Hurling:

Our junior A’s were beaten 1-16 to 0-10 by Roscrea on Friday last.

Senior Hurling:

Our north championship opener against Templederry will take place on the weekend of 21st 22nd of April.

Easter Camp:

Reminder that our Easter camp takes place in kilcolman 3/4/5th April from 10am-1pm. Hurling & football. Please have helmets/hurleys/gum shields. Small lunch also. Cost is €30 per child. Open to boys and girls who are already in school. Registration takes place on the 1st morning.

U16 Football:

Our u16 footballers were beaten by Portroe last week. We were very short of numbers and were forced to play the whole game with only 14 players.

U10 Hurling:

Our u10’s had their first meet up of the year on Wednesday last when they played a challenge match away to the Portroe u10 and a half’s. A good tough game ensued and our lads gave a great account of themselves.

Junior A Hurling:

Well done to our junior A hurlers who kicked off their league campaign with a fine 1-15 to 0-13 win over Borris-Ileigh. Ben Cooney did the world of damage in the first half, a performance he capped off with a fine goal (video below) at the stroke of half time.

Couch to 5k:

Well done to all who completed the couch to 5k and took part in Sunday’s park run in Clarisford Killaloe. Big thank you to Fergal McDonnell who organised and led the group.

U16 Football:

Hard luck to our u16 footballers who were beaten away to Portroe on Tuesday night. We were forced to play with 14 due to lack of numbers and Port made the most of home and numerical advantage to gain a well deserved win in horrible weather conditions.

Senior Hurling:

The draw for the north senior championship took place last week and we were drawn against Templederry who knocked us out of last year’s championship. He first round of the north championship games are scheduled to take place on the weekend of the 1st of April.

All Ireland Camogie Semi-final:

Commiserations to the Burgess Duharra senior Camogie team who suffered a heartbreaking one point defeat at the weekend.

Kilcolman community Recreation and Development Society Ltd. AGM:

The Kilcolman community Recreation and Development Society Ltd. AGM is on this Thursday  February 1st at 8pm in the new building.

Juvenile A.G.M. & Registration: 

Burgess Juvenile GAA club will hold their AGM on Wednesday 31st January at 7.30pm in Kilcoleman.  All are welcome to attend.

Registration for the juvenile club will take place on 7th February at 6.30pm in Kilcoleman. The cost to register will be €50 per child or €100 per family.

Referees needed:

We are  2 weeks  away from the start of the new referee course. We have 5 candidates from North Tipperary at present who have signed up.  We need to improve on this.

There are 4 clubs in North Tipperary who currently do not have a referee. Let’s work to address this in the next two weeks.

Junior A football:

Our footballers, despite battling hard, were undone by two goals just after half time in the North final in Portroe on Saturday last. It was an entertaining game despite the horrible conditions. Hard luck to our lads and congratulations to Portroe. Final score Burgess 1-10 Portroe 3-9.

Juvenile Presentation night:

Burgess Juvenile club are holding their annual presentation night in Kilcoleman on Friday 1st December at 6pm. Medals will be presented by Donagh Maher. We are also having our annual raffle . Tickets will be distributed this week please support this vital fundraiser for the juvenile club.

Cards Night:

Cards night continues every Thursday in Kilcoleman (new building) at 8pm. We’d love to see new 45 players as well as those who were involved last year. A beginners table will be there too. Lots of laughs and chat with a cup of tea.

Indoor Hurling:

Indoor hurling continues on Tuesday evenings for u11’s throughout the month of November.
