MATCH REPORT: North Tipp Junior A hurling League Burgess 1-16 Templederry 1-10

North Tipp Junior A hurling League

Burgess 1-16 Templederry 1-10 – 1st April 2017 Templederry.

Despite playing against a very strong breeze and and having to look into the low sun Burgess found themselves hurling well and enjoying a 0-4 to 0-2 lead after 10 minutes. Two Eoin Hogan frees and points from play by Conor Gill and John O’Brien. A melee, caused by some very indiscriminate pulling by a Templederry forward, resulted in both teams being reduced to 14 men. Points by Eoin and Paddy Hogan gave Burgess a slender 0-7 to 0-6 half time lead.

After eight minutes of the second half Burgess were motoring well having extended their lead to to five points, 1-9 to 0-7. The points coming from Eoin Hogan and the goal a low sun assisted Kieran Ryan long range free.  After 13 minutes the Burgess lead was looking even more comfortable with points from Eoin Hogan, Paddy Hogan and Johnny Ryan to leave Burgess 1-12 to 0-7 to the good. Templederry then struck with a fabulous goal to reduce the lead to five points and put Burgess under real pressure for the remainder of the game. Burgess finished strongly though with scores from Conor Gill and Eoin Hogan to run out 1-16 to 1-10 winners.

The Burgess Team: Paul Carroll, Lee Howard, Pat Woods, David Seymour, Tony Hogan, Kieran Ryan, Brian Tucker, Conor Gill, Johnny Ryan, Sean Flynn, Paddy Hogan, Aidan O’Flaherty, Andy Dunne, John O’Brien, Eoin Hogan.

MATCH REPORT: Burgess 3-16 Lorrha 1-14 – county senior league 2017

Burgess 3-16 Lorrha 1-14

County Senior League 26th March 2017

After winning the toss Lorrha opted to play with a strong wind behind them in the first half andm they raced into a 2 point lead with three minutes played. Burgess initially struggled to cope with the strong breeze but a fantastic piece of individual skill by Stephen Murray after an excellent Tossy Hogan delivery gave Burgess a one point lead and the first goal of the game. Lorrha responded with two more points before Murray struck again with a pointed free.  It was nip and tuck thereafter as both sides exchanged points and by my reckoning and that of a fair few others in the field that Lorrha led 1-5 to 0-10 at half time. The referee however had the game a draw at half time. Burgess 1-6 Lorrha 0-9.

Burgess were first on the score board after four minutes of the second half when Eoin Leahy Hogans fine work under the dropping ball put Stephen Murray through for his second goal of the game. Fair dues to Lorrha who despite the goal and injury some setbacks fought back to gamely level the game with 15 minutes remaining but a third Burgess goal after some classy interplay finished by Eoin Tossy Hogan essentially decided the fixture with 12 minutes to play. Burgess finished the game strongly to run out 3-16 to 1-14 winners and claim their second victory of this league campaign.

Burgess scorers: Stephen Murray 2-5, Eoin Tossy Hogan 1-0, Shane Maher 0-1, Keith Nealon 0-2, Danny Ryan 0-4, Eoin Leahy Hogan 0-2, Willie Ryan 0-1.

Burgess Team: Niall McGrath, Pat Woods, Jack O’Flaherty, Paddy Hogan, Brian Hogan, John O’Dwyer, Willie Ryan, Conor Gill, Shane Maher, Eoin Tossy Hogan, Keith Nealon, John O’Brien, Danny Ryan, Stephen Murray, Eoin Leahy Hogan. Subs Used: Andy Dunne, Bill O’Flaherty.

Burgess Notes 13th February 2017

The club extends its deepest sympathies to the Cooney family for the loss of Ryan who passed away tragically in the U.S. May he rest in peace.

Senior Hurling:

The final piece of fixture news was revealed at the north board meeting last week when we were drawn against our near neighbours Portroe in the first game of the still Knockout North championship. Portroe, as we all remember put an end to our senior hurling year in 2015 when they beat us in the North championship thus completing a miserable run of losses.

Meanwhile to our senior hurlers completed the Mayhem obstacle course in Cahir at the weekend to set the tone for the coming year. There are plenty of photo’s of the lads efforts shared to club facebook account for anyone interested. We would also like to say well done to Donagh Maher who starred in Tipperary’s highly impressive defeat of Dublin in Saturday evenings National Hurling League opener in Croke Park.

Club Texts:

If anyone wishes to be included on a text distribution list for match notifications & other club matters please contact Club secretary Gemma Flynn on the club phone (087) 235 9336.

Burgess GAA Notes 18th May 2015

Senior Hurling:

Our disappointing run of results continued at the weekend when our senior hurlers tasted defeat for the third time this year against Kilruane. On this occasion it was in the north championship. We were without some of our regulars but still managed to give Kilruane a good game for the most part with Kilruane only pulling away late on. We have now been drawn against Portroe in the next round of this competition on Saturday 23rd of May in Nenagh at 7pm. The last time we met our near neighbours in this competition we managed to defeat them, against all odds with thirteen men and they went on to win the championship that year. I trust I can count on all of your support for our lads in this vital game.

U12 Football:

Our under twelves had a busy weekend firstly defeating a strong Moneygall side in the North final on Friday night last with a score line of 1-4 to 1-1. The boys showed enormous character to hold out against wave after wave of Moneygall attacks in the second half and then a quick turnaround to face Kilsheelan in the county semi-final on Sunday evening. Though our lads played their hearts out it wasn’t to be and Kilsheelan ran out 1-3 to 0-2 winners on the night. We wish them the very best of luck in the final as we turn our attention to the important business of the hurling championship. We would like to thank our players and mentors for their efforts and the honour that they have brought to the club.

Junior Hurling:

Our Junior hurlers face Kilruane in the league on Sunday the 24th of May at 12pm in Cloughjordan.

Minor Hurling:

The draw was made for the minor hurling championships during the week and despite the fact that we neither won North nor County honours with this team two years ago at u16B level we have been graded at A level this year. We have been drawn in a group 2 with Kilruane, Toome and Kildangan. The other group containing the other five teams: Roscrea, Newport Gaels, Nenagh Éire Óg, Borris-Ileigh and Portroe. We wish our lads the very best of luck in this competition

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last week’s Jackpot. The numbers Drawn were 13, 15, 23 & 30. This week’s Draw was in Molly Ban’s, Nenagh for a Jackpot of €3,750. Next week’s Draw will be in Barry’s, Newtown on Monday 25 th May. Best of luck to all our supporters and thank you for your continued support.
