We play Holycross in our final group game of the county championship in Templemore on Sunday 8th of May at 2pm. I’m sure our boys can count on massive support from the parish on Sunday next.

Hard luck to our minor footballers who were well beaten by a very strong Borrisokane outfit on Wednesday last. We wish Borris the best of luck in the final.

We would like to send our best wishes to club stalwart Cian McDonnell and Ciara Fannon who were recently married in sunny Spain.

Well done also to Ciardha Maher and Katie O’Flaherty who were part of the victorious Tipperary minor camogie team in the All Ireland “A” minor hurling final replay at the weekend. Well done girls we are very proud of you.

Frank McGrath: Youghalarra’s Influential Republican Leader:

Historian and former Burgess hurler Liam Hogan has penned a timely article about his great granduncle the Republican leader and the man after whom the north senior cup is named, Frank McGrath. Given the current focus around the 1916 anniversary it is appropriate that we look back at Frank’s experiences before during and after the rising. It’s a fascinating well-researched  piece that’s well worth a read. The article, which Liam promises is only part one of a two part series, can be read online at the following address.

Burgess GAA Notes 11th April 2016

Senior Hurling:
Our senior hurlers drew with Moyne Templetouhy in wintry conditions in county championship on Saturday last, Burgess 3-15 Moyne 1-21. High winds coupled with sleet and snow showers made ball handling especially difficult. Our next opposition in the group is scheduled to be Toomevara, however Toome’s game v Holycross was postponed due to the weather conditions and this may effect our next fixture. We have also drawn Thurles Sarsfields in the quarter final of the Johnny Ryan senior league at home at a time and date to be confirmed.
