U12 football:

Our under 12s gave us another entertaining game today with a win over Lorrha 2-4 to 1-2. Lorrha fought back hard in the 2nd half but Burgess never gave up to secure the win. Well done to a great little team.

U14 football:

Our Under 14s started their football championship in the A grade last Wednesday evening v Ballina. The game was played in very wet and blustery conditions in kilcolman. Ballina had the upper hand in the first half but our boys fought back well but unfortunately lost out by 3 points on a full time score Burgess 2-1.

Junior B Hurling:

Our junior B league fixture for this weekend was cancelled at short notice this weekend on account of Inane Rovers involvement in the minor football championship. Please see the Guardian and the club social media for fixture updates.

Match Report:: Burgess v Ballina county senior league 2017

Burgess had a comfortable home win over neighbours Ballina in the opening game of the county league on Sunday last in Kilcoleman. Stephen Murray’s point in the opening ten seconds of the game gave Burgess a lead that the wouldn’t relinquish for the rest of the match. Indeed it wasn’t until the disruption caused to the Burgess defence by the loss of captain Johnny Mulqueen to injury in the twentieth minute of the first half that Ballina managed to mount a come back and cut the deficit from 7 points to 2 at half time with the score board reading Burgess 0-10 Ballina 0-8. Burgess also had a strong claim for a penalty denied in the first half after Tossy Hogan was rugby tackled as he bore down on the Ballina goal.

Burgess managed to tack on another nine points in the second half to Ballina’s one to run out easy winners 0-18 to 0-9. Burgess will be happy with the spread of scorers considering the loss of scorer in chief Stephen Murray to injury early in the second half.

Burgess Team: Niall McGrath, Pat Woods, Jack O’Flaherty, Willie Ryan, John O’Dwyer, Johnny Mulqueen(Capt), kieran Ryan, Conor Gill, Keith Nealon, Brian ‘Chopper’ Hogan, Stephen Murray, Shane Maher, Danny Ryan, Eoin ‘Tossy’ Hogan, Eoin ‘Leahy’ Hogan. Subs used: Declan O’Donoghue, JP Grace, John O’Brien.

FIXTURE:: Burgess v Ballina County senior league

Burgess v Ballina Sunday March 12th at 12pm in Kilcoleman county senior league 2017

Burgess GAA Notes 27th February 2017

Senior Hurling:

Our senior hurlers had a very useful challenge match against Upperchurch Drombane in Templederry on Sunday last. The neutral was necessary because of the car rally prevented access to Kilcoleman for most of the day. The match, played in horrible weather, will hopefully stand to our lads as they begin their league campaign in a reprise of last year’s league opener with a home fixture against neighbours Ballina on Sunday March 12th at 12pm. We wish our lads the best of luck and invite all of our supporters to come out and cheer on our lads in their first competitive game of the year.
