County Senior League – Burgess 1-15 Holycross Ballycahill 3-17

A heavily depleted Burgess outfit hurled with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half of this county league group game and though they had twenty scoring opportunities in the opening period their return was a meagre ten points. Holycross goaled in the 7th minute to gain the lead for the first time in the match 1-02 to 0-3 after some good combination play. Burgess, despite their ferocious wide count, had the game on level terms by the 18th minute but just could not make their wind assisted dominance count on the score board and they were all square at half time, Burgess 0-10 Holycross Ballycahill 1-7.

The second half was tit for tat with points until the 23rd minute when a Niall McGrath was deceived a ball that took and unfortunate hop to push Holycross into a one goal lead. Holycross immediately added a point from the puckout to go four in front. Burgess struck back immediately with a goal from Ronan Tucker to leave a point between the teams Burgess 1-15 Holycross 2-13 and five minutes remaining. But disaster struck and Holycross had the ball in the Burgess net almost immediately after Ronans effort. Holycross tacked on four more unanswered points in the remaining couple of minutes to give them a flattering 3-17 to 1-15 win. Burgess will rue their 17 wides, two gilt edged goal chances amongst them. Best on show for Burgess were the half back line of JP Grace John O’Dwyer and Johnny Mulqueen. Keith Nealon and Danny Ryan hurled very well also.

The games are down for Sunday the 25th of June at 12pm.  Clubs can agree a change of date and time and refer back to me with their agreed terms.

All changes must be agreed with the divisions of the club teams concerned before they can be approved by county C.C.C.

And who better to demonstrate striking but current senior hurler and one of the best strikers of the ball you’re likely see, our very own Stephen Murray.
We would like to thank Declan Kirwan, whose brainchild this project this is, for his vision and for putting the work into producing this video. We would also like to thank Fergal McDonnell for his input and for doing such a professional job with the editing. MATCH REPORT: North Tipp Junior A hurling League Burgess 1-16 Templederry 1-10

North Tipp Junior A hurling League

Burgess 1-16 Templederry 1-10 – 1st April 2017 Templederry.

Despite playing against a very strong breeze and and having to look into the low sun Burgess found themselves hurling well and enjoying a 0-4 to 0-2 lead after 10 minutes. Two Eoin Hogan frees and points from play by Conor Gill and John O’Brien. A melee, caused by some very indiscriminate pulling by a Templederry forward, resulted in both teams being reduced to 14 men. Points by Eoin and Paddy Hogan gave Burgess a slender 0-7 to 0-6 half time lead.

After eight minutes of the second half Burgess were motoring well having extended their lead to to five points, 1-9 to 0-7. The points coming from Eoin Hogan and the goal a low sun assisted Kieran Ryan long range free.  After 13 minutes the Burgess lead was looking even more comfortable with points from Eoin Hogan, Paddy Hogan and Johnny Ryan to leave Burgess 1-12 to 0-7 to the good. Templederry then struck with a fabulous goal to reduce the lead to five points and put Burgess under real pressure for the remainder of the game. Burgess finished strongly though with scores from Conor Gill and Eoin Hogan to run out 1-16 to 1-10 winners.

The Burgess Energy Team hosted an information evening on Wednesday in Kilcolman on March 22nd at 8pm for all interested in improving heat efficiency of their homes and businesses and grant opportunities available.

Beginners step aerobics starts in the Hall in Kilcoleman on Tuesday 14th of February!
Qualified instructor will provide steps.
Class is from 7.15pm to 8pm and costs €5 per person (pay as you go).

Little All Stars:

Our little All Stars initiative is going great guns on Saturday mornings at 10am with the children of the parish really enjoying the activities. We would like to thank all who are helping out.

Ramble to Kilcolman:

Our night of cards, tea and chat which began last Thursday night at 8pm in Kilcolman was a great success. Anyone interested in playing 45 in the parish is more than welcome every Thursday night.

Senior Hurling:

We have been placed in division 2B of the new format of the county league with Holycross, Lorrha, JK Brackens, Roscrea and Ballina with Ballina likely to be our first opponents if all goes to plan. We should have home advantage with the first matches scheduled to occur on the weekend of the 12th March. The draw was also made for the county championship where we find ourselves in a group with three recent champions from other divisions, Éire Óg Annacarty, Killenaule and Mullinahone.

We await the draw for the North Championship at the time of writing which is due to take place on 8pm Tuesday February 7th.

Club Lotto:

There was no winner of last Monday night’s club lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 5, 14, 18 & 22. The 3 lucky dip winners were Dinny Carroll Kilcolman, Eric Hughes c/o Johnny Grace & Eimear Griffin Kylebeg. The sellers prize went toMatt Fogarty. This weeks draw was in Barry for a  Jackpot  of €6,900.

Burgess GAA Notes 28th November 2016

Juvenile Awards & Christmas Night:

Our juvenile presentation and Christmas night takes place on Friday December 2nd at 6:30pm sharp. We look forward to seeing all our players and their parents there. This year we will be offering a juvenile yearbook for sale for the first time. The yearbook has a breakdown of each teams hurling year along with colour photos of teams, individual players and match action as well as many more articles. These yearbooks are a steal at €10 and would make a fantastic Christmas gift.

Dinner dance:

The club will be holding a dinner dance in the Abbey Court hotel on Friday, December 16th in honour of the 40th anniversary of the all conquering 1976 intermediate team. The senior and junior A 2016 league winning teams will also be presented with their medals on the night. Tickets are €30 and are available from any club officer music by silver dollar.
